​What is Dyslexia?

  • Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty which mainly affects the skills involved in accurate and fluent reading and spelling. It can also affect working memory and information processing.

  • Dyslexic people may have difficulty with processing and remembering the information they see and hear, which can affect their learning and the acquisition of literacy skills.

Impact

  • Dyslexia is a neurological difference and can have a significant impact during education, in the workplace and in everyday life.

  • Everyone’s experience of dyslexia may be different with varying impact. Dyslexia can co-occur with other specific learning difficulties and affect other skills. It usually runs in families and is a life-long condition.
